Do you know what a Spoom or a Pottel are?
Leche
All this means is a food which is served in slices. So be careful if in one place you eat a Leche Flan and it is great, the next place it could be something completely different. It could be meat, sweet, poultry, fish or even veg. The only thing of which you can be assured is that it will be served in slices or strips.
Temper
To mix thoroughly in order to thin or lighten a mixture.
So it has a Very similar meaning to that other temper temper which is caused by someone getting stirred up and their nerves getting frayed and their rational thinking patterns getting thinned out
Saucer
No not the term for the tea cup dish but actually comes from a large spoon that would be used to "sauce" (baste) your roast.
Pottel
A pottel is a liquid measure of about a pint. It is also the way Australians order a small portion of chips
Capons
A Capon is an unfortunate Rooster which had been neutered so it could expend all of its energy into growing large. So our emasculated rooster plumps up on gourmet grains. A typical Capon apart from being tasty will also feed more people as it will weigh between 2.2 to 3.5 kilos.
Macerate
To Macerate something is the act of soaking fruit in a flavored liquid so that the liquid penetrates into the fruit, enabling the food to take on the flavor of the liquid. Common ingredients used when Macerating fruits would be juices, sugar, liquor, or syrups that infuse selected flavors into the fruit. Raisins are often Macerated in brandy or rum to add flavors desired for various rich tasting specialty recipes, such as fruitcakes and baked breads.
Semifreddo
Is basically any desert that is partially frozen when served! It comes from the Italian word that means Half Cold. Some deserts could be but not limited to: cake, ice cream, fruit and custard or even a Spoom (what is a Spoom??). If it tastes great and is served colder than from the fridge but not solid from the freezer then it is Semifreddo.
Spoom
A light desert made with sherbet and light sugar syrup mixed with either fruit juice or champagne. Mix it up and place in the freezer and before it freezes to hard you add and combined with uncooked Meringue, which gives spoom a light and airy texture and wow flavour.
